(7)Council Directive 90/496/EEC of 24 September 1990 on nutrition labelling for foodstuffs ⁶ lays down rules on the content and presentation of nutrition information on prepacked foods. According to those rules, the inclusion of nutrition information is voluntary unless a nutrition-related claim is made concerning the food. The majority of the provisions laid down in that Directive date back to 1990 and should therefore be updated.
